“As I look at what I’ve done. The type of life that I’ve lived… I chose a road of passion and pain. Sacrificed too much and waited in vain… Torn and confused. Wasted and used. Reached the crossroad. Which path would I choose. Stuck and frustrated I waited, debated. For something to happen that just wasn’t fated… Misled I bled till the poison was gone. And out of the darkness arrived the sweet dawn.” Lauryn Hill feat. Mary J. Blige, “I Used to Love Him,” The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. 1998.
The DDR: RIGHTEOUSNESS. “I Used to Love Him”, featuring Mary J. Blige, provides a practical example of what my grandmother and mother always told me. They said, “If you play with dirty dogs you will walk away with some fleas.” Yea this is a song about a relationship gone bad, but really it casts a much wider net in that it reminds us to BE CHOOSY about the company we keep, the places we go, the things we do, and the ideas we allow into our minds and hearts. As I look at the type of life that I’ve lived and the mistakes I’ve made, I can honestly say that I u’sta do a lot of things I don’t do anymore. I u’sta talk to people who I don’t talk to anymore. I u’sta go to certain places that I stay away from now. And I u’sta have a certain way of thinking that hindered me from my full potential. Sure I continue to learn how to BE CHOOSY about what I let into my life. Surely I’ve ignored signs and advice from others in some situations. But it’s all about experience, right? And now that I have a little more experience under my belt, I understand what these wise women meant. So as you step into the weekend, wherever you are in the world reading today’s DDR, remember the people, places, things, and ideas you surround yourself with, are the same things that will make their way into your life. So we must all BE CHOOSY!” Peace and love Daily Dosers!! Talk to you Monday morning
