“I heard ‘em say. Nothing’s ever promised tomorrow today… But we’ll a find a way. And nothing last forever but be honest babe. It hurts but it may be the only way.” Kanye West featuring Adam Levine, “Heard ‘Em Say,” Late Registration, 2005.
ORDER. Happy Hump Day Daily Dosers! My name is Zaneta J. Smith and I am Dr. Joyce’s assistant. Today, she decided to let me write today’s DDR. I titled it “KEEP FAITH” because faith seems to be an ongoing theme in my life – especially within the last eight months. Since I was a child, I was taught that education is the golden ticket to job security, a 401K, and retirement. Now, that promise seems to have little truth with the double dip recession. There seems to be a lack of order. I was supposed to go to school then have no problem finding a job, right? I went to Spelman College. Then graduated on to attend the University of Chicago’s Jane Addams College of Social Work. I applied to my first job in January in an effort to become a school social worker. Now three months after graduation, with a Master’s degree, I am still receiving rejection emails from schools, non-profits, foundations, community centers, and counseling centers – all agencies that have been hit with budget cuts.
I feel like Jimmy. Remember the character on Kanye West’s College Dropout album. All he had was “degrees”. All I have is my degrees. The jobs all are looking for someone else. They say someone with more experience. How am I s’posed to get this experience without getting hired. This is the situation for many young professionals of my generation. Now I struggle to make my ends meet. I got two choices. Have a pity party or keep moving towards that golden opportunity that is around the corner. It only takes one “yes”.
The DDR: I heard ‘em say life always has its way of working things out in the final hour. I heard ‘em say “struggles make you STRONGER!!!” And to NEVER give up!!! So I challenge you today to hang in there and continue climbing toward the throne. Keep the faith. Peace out Daily Dosers.
